Susan R. Byrd was elected into office as City Councilmember of Precinct 1 on May 5th, 2017. Mrs. Byrd was born in Savannah, GA on January 21, 1954. Currently resides on Southland Avenue in Marlin.
Susan serves on several boards in the community such as Palace Theater Board of Directors; Heritage Museum Board of Directors; and former non-profit board "Marlin Returns", as well as her home state as Dame of the Sovereign Military Order of The Knights of the Temple of Jerusalem, St. David of Wales priory.
Councilmember Byrd’s education includes McCallum High School (1972); University of Texas, Austin -- B.S. in Radio TV & Film, (1975); Central State University, Edmond OK -- MBA, Marketing (1976); Oklahoma City University, Oklahoma City, OK -- Juris Doctor -- Law (1980); Queens College, Oxford, UK -- Comparative Law Studies (1979); Boston University, Boston, MA -- LLM, American Banking Law (1988).
Mrs. Byrd served as a Certified Mediator by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (2008).
She is admitted to practice law in States of Oklahoma and Commonwealth of Massachusetts; United States District Courts for the Northern District of Texas, Western District of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Massachusetts; 1st and 10th U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal.
Susan enjoys gardening and is a member of the Marlin Garden Club. She also enjoys restoring her home on Southland Avenue, fostering dogs and cats, cooking, and learning to play bridge.
Mrs. Byrd is a widow, formerly married to Carroll Edward Ayers, Jr. Her parents -- William Rex Byrd and Billie H. Byrd nee Johnston (both deceased). Siblings: Brother -- Michael C. Byrd, Sunrise Beach, TX married to Lynne Offerman Byrd and Sister---Deborah A. Byrd Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK married to Larry Johnson.
